With Quintel’s QVT 4000 products operators can add new access technologies to existing sites without increasing the number or size of antennas and without additional feeders. A compelling solution for adding new technologies in existing bands, in particular UMTS900 to GSM900 sites, cdma850 to GSM850 sites, or GSM1900 to cdma1900 sites.
Liberalised spectrum policies will enable new access technologies to be deployed within the same band or bands as existing and legacy technologies, e.g. UMTS, HSxPA or GSM deployment in spectrum bands where traditional GSM, UMTS, cdma or TDMA is already deployed.
For conventional installations operators must consider how to accommodate the additional equipment required for the new technologies that include:-
1. Deployment of additional RF feeder lines, Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA’s), and antennas to support the RF coverage for new access technologies.
2. Deploying dedicated additional cell sites to support a new technology.
3. The QoS and performance compromises due to a common shared tilt for multiple technologies when a base station combining system is used with a single conventional antenna and LNA.
In addition to extra capital and operational expenditure associated with adding new site equipment, new antenna infrastructure can place burdens upon zoning and planning approvals, tower loading due to extra feeder lines and tower top equipment, and increased visual intrusion – Resulting in delays and lost revenues.
