Network freedom

Network deployment, site selection, RF design, planning and optimisation are becoming increasingly demanding in a progressively liberalised spectrum environment. Cellular operators are faced with the challenge of how to get the best returns from more choices of current and emerging access technologies in both legacy and new spectrum bands, at the same time maximising often capacity constrained existing and available base station site assets.

The Quintel antenna introduces a number of new and innovative network design, RF planning and optimisation applications. Such solutions assist in achieving operator rollout targets whilst enhancing the potential for RF network capacity and coverage optimisation, with reduced costs and increased revenue potential.

These new techniques allow the ability to support multiple operators, multiple cellular access technologies, multiple cells, and/or multiple RF Channels with independent tilt through a single antenna, enabling more freedom to your network rollout, design, and optimisation. Operator Division Tilt would liberate sites in the location you want, when you want, from your existing site portfolio, other operator site portfolios, and 3rd party provider site portfolios. These liberated sites may have otherwise not been considered due to the need for site redevelopment, and local authority planning approval/zoning objections and delays.

Service Division Tilt would allow an operator to maximise RF design and optimisation of multiple access technology layers in the same band, as opposed to conventional combining into one antenna having one tilt for multiple access technologies, or having to deploy multiple antennas, one for each access technology layer. Different access technologies have different interference tolerance characteristics and generally serve different spatially distributed traffic, and hence demand independent optimisation to maximise coverage and capacity for overall network performance.

Frequency Division Tilt allows an operator to optimise the use of all his RF channels or spectrum allocation within the same band. This enables for example one RF channel to be optimised for capacity absorption, whilst allowing another RF channel to be tilted independently to provide optimal coverage, in a similar manner to a classic macro/micro hierarchy.

Code Division Tilt offers the ability to perform cell splitting in the elevation plane for cdma access technologies to create for example, 6 cells from 3 antennas. This application of Quintel antennas serves as a powerful capacity or coverage enhancement or optimisation feature. Conventional cell splitting in the azimuth plane requires 6 antennas per site including having to use wider antennas.
